UFC 193: Rousey vs. Holm Reportedly Tops 1 Million Pay-Per-View Buys

UFC 193: Rousey vs. Holm Reportedly Tops 1 Million Pay-Per-View Buys

When the Ultimate Fighting Championship replaced the UFC 193 main event with the women’s bantamweight title fight between Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm after welterweight champion Robbie Lawler suffered an injury, the fight promotion planned on setting records.

The event set the all-time UFC attendance record with 56,214 spectators attending the Nov. 15 event at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. The previous record was held by UFC 129 where 55,724 fans were in attendance at Toronto’s Rogers Centre to witness Georges St-Pierre defend his welterweight title against Jake Shields in April 2011.

UFC 193 also became the first UFC event to have over 50,000 spectators on hand and sell more than a million pay-per-views.

According to Dave Meltzer of MMAFighting.com, UFC 193 sold an estimated 1 to 1.1 million pay-per-views, ranking it among the most successful events in the promotion’s history.

It was the first time that two women’s title fights headlined a UFC pay-per-view fight card and shattered previous combat sports numbers for an event headlined by women by nearly ten times. No combat sports event headlined by women ever did more than 125,000 in pay-per-view sales.

With those types of numbers, it’s no wonder the promotion is angling for a rematch at UFC 200 in July.
