Demian Maia showed he was the superior of two of the world's best grapplers, winning a unanimous decision over Gunnar Nelson at UFC 194 on Saturday in Las Vegas.

A grappling match between two of the world's best started with Maia working tirelessly for a single-leg. Eventually, the Brazilian worked his way to secure the back. He attempted to find openings for a rear-naked choke, but Nelson avoided danger. Towards the end of the round, Maia beautifully transitioned to an armbar attempt, but Nelson worked his way out and finished the round in top position.

Maia again found himself securing Nelson's back in the second round. Nelson had a moment where he worked his way to top position again, but Maia was able to find his way back to an advantageous position and worked from mount, landing strikes from there and bloodying up Nelson in the process.

Maia continued his assault in the third, gaining position and landing punches and elbows from on top. The Brazilian then transitioned to the back and landed several short strikes while looking for an opening for a submission. Nelson reversed position towards the end of the round and found himself in Maia's guard, but it was too little too late.

With the win on Saturday, Maia wins his fourth fight in a row.
