UFC 197 Results: Edson Barboza Tops Anthony Pettis with Unanimous Decision

Edson Barboza defeated former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis at UFC 197, earning a unanimous decision in their main-card fight on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Barboza outpointed Pettis in the significant strike department in what was a stand-up battle, collecting judges' scores of 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27.

Barboza opened up strong by successfully landing a number of combinations. He opened up a cut next to Pettis' right eye by landing a well-placed left hook.

Pettis pressed the action more in the second round, initiating more flurries in the frame. Barboza, however, continued to find his mark with left hooks.

Barboza landed a number of significant strikes through Round 3, brutalizing Pettis' lead leg both on the inside and out. He also landed a number of kicks to the midsection before time expired for the bout.

With the win, Barboza picks up the 17th win of his career. Pettis, meanwhile, picks up a third consecutive loss.
