UFC 201 Fighter Salaries: Robbie Lawler Tops Payroll, Even in Defeat
Following a blockbuster week of three consecutive events on three consecutive nights to open July, the UFC closed out the month with another champion losing his belt.
Robbie Lawler has been through five five-round wars in his eight most recent UFC bouts, but his UFC 201 headlining bout wasn’t one of them.
Instead of going to war with Tyron Woodley, Lawler was the victim of a sneak attack. Woodley took out the champ in 2:12 of the first round, knocking Lawler out for only the second time in his career.
Woodley walked away with the belt and a $340,000 payday, but Lawler, even in defeat, stood atop the disclosed UFC 201 fighter payroll with a half-million-dollar payout.
The Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission released the fighter salaries on Monday.
UFC 201: Lawler vs. Woodley took place on Saturday, July 30, at Philips Arena in Atlanta.
