UFC 202 Results: Anthony Johnson Flattens Glover Teixeira in 13 Seconds

While the UFC 202 main event between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor drew most of the attention during fight week, the co-main event between light heavyweight contenders Anthony Johnson and Glover Teixeira largely fell under the radar.

There wasn’t’ any trash talk leading up to the fight. The two didn’t launch water bottles at each other during the pre-fight press conference, but they threw leather inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Teixeira asked for the fight with Johnson after his first-round knockout of former champion Rashad Evans in April. They say be careful what you ask for, and Teixeira found out why they say that on Saturday.

Teixeira pressured Johnson early, and it backfired. Johnson landed a right uppercut that rendered Teixeira unconscious just 13 seconds into the fight.

Following the fight, Johnson thanked Teixeira for taking the fight and for his professionalism.

“I told him, thank you for being a professional and showing the world what professional athletes are all about especially with all the stuff going on yesterday, or the press conference and all of that,” said Johnson, referencing Diaz and McGregor's water bottle-throwing incident.

“You see, we don’t need to do all that talking to get knockouts done. We just come out here and do the damn thing,” he added.

Heading into the fight, Johnson was the top-ranked contender in the 205-pound division while Teixeira was ranked second. With the win, “Rumble” has set up a rematch against light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier.

“I’m working hard to get to the title. I’ve been busting my butt to get to the title. Daniel, you’re the man, but I’m coming for you. Let’s get it on. We’re going to get it on. Much respect,” he said while the titleholder watched from the front row.

“Much respect to Daniel Cormier. He’s a hell of an athlete, a hell of a champion. I’m just coming in here trying to take that belt,” added Johnson.
