UFC 203 Results: Mickey Gall Mauls CM Punk into Submission

CM Punk's UFC debut didn't go very well, as Mickey Gall submitted the former professional wrestler on the main card of UFC 203 on Saturday in Cleveland.

Gall mauled Punk for the entirety of the match, finishing the fight via rear-naked choke at 2:14 of Round 1.

Punk closed the distance early, but Gall shot in for a double-leg takedown and put the former WWE champion on his back. From there, Gall battered away with ground and pound as Punk looked to avoid damage.

Gall was relentless on the ground, transitioning between positions as freely as he wanted. Eventually he worked to mount while Punk gave up his back and from there Gall worked towards the finish.

With Gall securing his back, Punk found himself in a bad position. Although he worked to defend the submission, Punk was forced to tap as Gall sunk in the arm and secured the rear-naked choke.

With the win, Gall improves his record to 3-0 as he continues his young career. In his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, Gall called out Sage Northcutt for his next opponent.

“I think he's corny,” he said. “I'm gonna pull his spikes out of his head.”

Punk in his post-fight interview reflected on living life full of knockdowns but getting back up and believing in yourself.

“In life you go big, you go home. I just like to take challenges,” he said. “This is a helluva mountain I decided to climb. I didn’t make it to the summit, but I’m not giving up.”
