UFC Featherweight Contender Chad Mendes Notified of Potential Anti-Doping Violation
UFC featherweight title contender Chad Mendes has been notified by the United States Anti-Doping Agency of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition drug test.
UFC officials announced the news on Friday, but did not provide details of when the test sample was collected or what the nature of the violation was. It's been some time since Mendes' last fight and had nothing concrete on the horizon.

“The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Chad Mendes of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collection.
“USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case. It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full and fair review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.”
Mendes has fought for a piece of the UFC featherweight pie on three occasions. He lost twice to Jose Aldo for the full version of the championship, and also lost to Conor McGregor for a the interim version of the belt. He hasn't set foot in the Octagon since Dec. 11, 2015, when Frankie Edgar knocked him out in the first round of their The Ultimate Fighter Season 22 Finale headlining bout.
