UFC Fight Night 63 Weigh-in Results: Chad Mendes and Ricardo Lamas On Point

Avoiding the fervor of March Madness' Final Four, the Ultimate Fighting Championship is holding Saturday's UFC Fight Night 63: Mendes vs. Lamas at a very special early time, with the main card starting at 1 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1. But before that could happen, the fighters had to step on the scale at a special Noon start time in Fairfax, Va., on Friday.

The main event will go a long way in helping to shape the race for the next featherweight title shot after Jose Aldo defends his belt against Conor McGregor in July. Chad Mendes and Ricardo Lamas have each lost to Aldo in the past, but do battle in a five-round headliner on Saturday to help narrow down the field of top contenders.

Neither fighter had trouble making weight and neither fighter showed anything but respect for the other.

“Chad is a great opponent. I'm looking forward to the challenge,” said Lamas, the UFC's No. 4 featherweight. “I'm looking forward to putting on a great fight for the fans.”

The No. 1 ranked 145-pounder in the UFC, Mendes was just as respectful in return. “Ricardo is a tough guy. This in my opinion is for the true No. 1 contender spot. I'm looking to get out there and put on a great performance.”

The co-main event features two lightweight fighters that have long been on the cusp of a title shot, but not quite taking that final step into the top spot. Jorge Masvidal and Al Iaquinta are both on a three-fight winning streak, but only one will take that next step towards a coveted championship bout.

While Iaquinta easily made weight, Masvidal took to the stage still wearing his weight-cutting apparel. He was one-half pound over the 156-pound limit and was given two hours to make the mark.
