UFC Fight Night 65 Results: Stipe Miocic Demolishes Mark Hunt

The UFC Fight Night 65: Miocic vs. Hunt main event was a one-sided affair that was allowed to continue disgustingly too long.

Fourth-ranked heavyweight Stipe Miocic dominated fifth-ranked Mark Hunt at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Adelaide, Australia on Saturday, finishing the “Super Samoan” via technical knockout in the fifth round.

It was a stylistic matchup that many felt would result in a striking battle, but turned out to be anything but what they imagined. Miocic utilized his wrestling ability to consistently take Hunt down and keep him there while battering him with punches and elbows.

Hunt scrambled to his feet on a couple of occasions, but largely offered up little resistance to Miocic's takedowns and top control.

Hunt’s face showed the damage he had taken. It was swollen and bruised. The 41-year-old was hardly recognizable. The fight was nearly stopped in the third frame after Miocic mounted Hunt and delivered a series of hammer fists. The cage-side physician was called into the octagon after the fourth round to check Hunt’s badly swollen right eye. He reluctantly allowed him to continue.

Miocic quickly put Hunt on his back in the opening moments of the final frame. He continued to land punches on an exhausted and damaged Hunt trapped against the cage. Midway through the round, the referee had finally seen enough and stopped the fight.

“He was telling me that he was going to knock me out, so why not (utilized ground and pound). Take him out of his own game,” said Miocic after the win.

The loss was Hunt’s second consecutive defeat. For Miocic, he bounced back from a decision loss to former champion Junior dos Santos in his last outing and punched his ticket to contender status.
