UFC Fight Night 70 Fighter Bonuses: Yoel Romero Banks Extra $50,000 for Lyoto Machida KO

The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced the winners of the performance-based fighter bonuses stemming from UFC Fight Night 70: Machida vs. Romero following Saturday’s event in South Florida. Yoel Romero, Lorenz Larkin, Santiago Ponzinibbio, and Thiago Santos took home the $50,000 bonus checks.

The co-main event between Larkin and Ponzinibbio was deemed the Fight of the Night. Ponzinibbio pressed the action, but Larkin used speed and accuracy to finish that Argentinian in the second round by technical knockout.

Romero upped his status in the middleweight division by knocking out fourth-ranked Lyoto Machida in the main event. He also earned a Performance of the Night award for his efforts.

Santos was awarded a Performance of the Night bonus for his 29-second knockout of Steve Bosse in middleweight action. Santos delivered one of the most devastating knockouts in recent history. He landed a high kick flush on the side of Bosse’s head, impacting with his shin. Bosse never saw it coming and crumbled to the canvas.

UFC Fight Night 70: Machida vs. Romero took place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla.
