UFC on Fuel TV 9 Adds Phil DeFries vs. Matt Mitrione and Benny Alloway vs. Ryan LaFlare

UFC Signs Undefeated Brit Scott Askham to Face Magnus Cedenblad in Stockholm

It’s been a busy past few days for UFC fight announcements.

Chief among the quickly growing fight cards is the UFC on Fuel TV 9: Gustafsson vs. Mousasi event slated for April 6 in Stockholm, Sweden. And according to UFC president Dana White, the event is already sold out.

Aside from Saturday’s addition of Ryan Couture vs. Ross Pearson, UFC officials announced two more bouts for the Stockholm card: Phil DeFries vs. Matt Mitrione and Benny Blanco Alloway vs. Ryan LaFlare.

DeFries and Mitrione both enter their heavyweight bout coming off of losses. Todd Duffee made his successful return to the Octagon at UFC 155 to close out 2012 with a TKO victory over DeFries (9-2) in the opening minutes of their bout. Mitrione (5-2) is actually coming off of back-to-back losses. He lost to Cheick Kong in late 2011 then Roy Nelson TKO’d him in the main event of the TUF 16 Finale in December of last year.

DeFries and Mitrione were originally slated to meet at UFC 155, but Mitrione was pulled from that bout to fight Nelson when Nelson’s original opponent, Shane Carwin, fell out of the bout due to an injury.

Alloway (13-3) came up short in his run on The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes reality series, losing to eventual runner up Brad Scott. He rebounded at the finale, which was incorporated into UFC on FX 6, by knocking out Manuel Rodriguez.

Alloway has no easy charge in his welterweight follow-up, welcoming undefeated Ring of Combat champion LaFlare (7-0) to the Octagon.

Alloway enters the bout on the heels of a win at Ring of Combat in late January. He is a tough customer that has finished every one of his opponents.

Alexander Gustafsson and Gegard Mousasi headline UFC on Fuel TV 9 on April 6.
