UFC Veteran Light Heavyweight Ryan Jimmo Reportedly Dead at 34

Canadian mixed martial artist, and seven-fight UFC veteran, Ryan Jimmo has died due to injuries suffered from a hit-and-run incident in a nightclub parking lot in the early morning hours of June 26. Multiple news outlets have confirmed the tragic loss. The “Big Deal” as 34.

CBC News first reported that homicide detectives were investigating a hit-and-run on Whyte Avenue that resulted in Jimmo's death on Sunday morning. Jimmo was involved in an altercation at around 2:15 a.m., in the parking lot of the H2O Lounge in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. As Jimmo walked away from the vehicle driven by the “suspects,” the driver of an ‘older-model, extended-cab pickup truck,' accelerated, striking Jimmo.

Jimmo was transported to a local hospital where he later died from the injuries. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Jimmo made his professional fighting debut in February 2007. He made a name for himself competing in the Canadian fight promotion Maximum Fighting Championship, winning the organization's light heavyweight title. While riding a 15-fight win streak, Jimmo was signed by the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2012. In his promotional debut, on the biggest stage in mixed martial arts, Jimmo knocked out Anthony Perosh in just 7 seconds.

Jimmo last fought at UFC Fight Night 67 in May 2015, losing to Francimar Barroso by unanimous decision. It was the third loss in his last four outings. He was released by the organization following the defeat and never competed again. His MMA records stands at 19-5.
