Unai Emery knows exactly where Aston Villa must improve after they equalled a club record with an impressive win against Fulham.

Fresh from Thursday night’s Europa League win against Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, Emery’s men were in fine form once again as they raced into two-goal lead by halt-time after Moussa Diaby and John McGinn both found the net.

Top goalscorer Ollie Watkins got in on the act in the second-half as the England striker scored his eleventh goal of the season and his eighth in the last nine games in all competitions.  Former Wolves striker Raul Jimenez pulled a goal back for Fulham with 20 minutes remaining but it was not enough for the Cottagers to prevent Villa equalling a club record of 13 consecutive Premier League home wins.

The international break will now put a temporary pause on Villa’s momentum but they will return to action with a tough-looking trip to Tottenham Hotspur on the final Sunday of November.  There is a marked difference between Villa’s home and away records so far this season, with Emery’s men only winning two of their six fixtures on the road this season - and that is where the former Villa boss is now focusing his attention.

He said: “Each match is a challenge. Each match we have to face in different competitions, in Europe. On Thursday we played very well and achieved a good result as well.

“Every match we are playing at home with our supporters we have to try and feel good, to feel comfortable, to be very competitive and to be improving every match.  We are trying to keep the balance when we are playing away. Always playing away is more difficult and we are feeling it.

“We can improve in the matches we are playing away and we have to take the challenge in the next match we are playing away against Tottenham.”
