Uncapped Wigan winger Liam Marshall will continue his remarkable season by being named in the England squad today. The Warriors flier finished the campaign as Super League’s top scorer with 29 tries and Dream Team recognition.

He played his part in all of the table-toppers’ historic quadruple, featuring in the World Club Challenge, Challenge Cup and Grand Final glories. And just four days after helping Wigan retain the title at Old Trafford, Marshall is now picked in Shaun Wane’s 24-man squad for the upcoming series with Samoa.

He is joined by club-mate and Super League Young Player of the Year Junior Nsemba with both hoping to make their Test debuts on home soil at Brick Community Stadium on Sunday week. Marshall, 28, did play off the bench for England against Fiji in a friendly before the World Cup two years ago but that game was not classed as a full international.

However, one of Super League’s most consistent wide men, who has a knack of performing on the biggest of stages, will bid to finally have a proper crack at international rugby league.

Among his other picks, Wane has also opted for veteran prop Chris Hill who turns 37 next month and was released by Huddersfield at the end of the season. Wigan’s England front-row Luke Thompson will miss the first Test after last night failing in his bid to have a one-match penalty notice overturned.

England face Samoa in the second of the two Test series at Headingley on Saturday November 2.
