AN "unexpected road closure" is forcing buses and cars to divert.

First West Yorkshire posted on Twitter at 1.54pm today to alert people that its 686 bus service - running between Brighouse and Fagley - was changing route slightly.

The post said this was due to an "unexpected road closure" on Smith House Lane, in Brighouse and informed customers the service would divert via Bradford Road (A641) instead.

The exact reason for the closure has been left shrouded in mystery, with the Telegraph & Argus's traffic page reporting it is due to a "traffic problem".

It adds that the road is closed both ways between its junctions with Stoney Lane and Sycamore Drive, with traffic reportedly coping well.

The T&A contacted West Yorkshire Police and the force has no record of any crimes or crashes there.

Yorkshire Water's website also does not show any issues such as a water pipe burst or leak, or flooding.
