Unics fight back for win

Unics Kazan came from behind to register their first Euroleague win of the season, edging Galatasaray 68-64 in the Turkish side's own back yard.

Against their fellow Euroleague newcomers, Unics started slowly and trailed for almost 38 minutes at the Abdi Ipekci Sports Hall before waking up in the final quarter to edge the contest.

Back-to-back three-pointers from Mike Wilkinson and Terrell Lyday put the visitors ahead for the first time with just over two minutes to play.

It was a lead the Russian side were not to relinquish as they held out to record their debut victory in the competition and take their record in Group D to one and one.

Elsewhere, Montepaschi Siena saw off Union Olimpija without any fuss, winning 79-57 in Italy, while Barcelona's 88-61 win over Asseco Prokom Gdynia was similarly effortless.

Far less straightforward was Nancy's eventual 87-73 win over Bilbao Basket, the French side having to rely on a late surge to end the hopes of their Spanish opponents.

Led by Nicolas Batum, who ended with 26 points, Nancy scored 15 unanswered points in the final three minutes to pull away and claim their first victory in Group A.

Real Madrid also had it tough as they fought hard to beat Olimpia Milano 85-78 in their Group C showdown. Jaycee Carroll led the Spanish side with 21 points while Rudy Fernandez added 17.

Olympiacos came back from more than 10 points down in the second half to inflict an 81-74 defeat on Fenerbahce Ulker and rounding off the night's action Maccabi Tel Aviv edged Partizan Mobtel 70-66.
