Netherlands' Robin van Persie (L) fights for a ball with Hungary's Roland Juhasz during their World Cup 2014 qualifier

Van Persie was caught on the thigh by the knee of Hungary defender Roland Juhasz in Netherlands' World Cup qualifier in Budapest on Tuesday night.

The striker played on until half-time at the Ferenc Puskas Stadium, at which point he was substituted for Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

Netherlands went on to win the Group C match 4-1 and afterwards head coach Louis van Gaal Van Persie's withdrawal did not mean he was injured.

"We took off Robin for precautionary measures," Van Gaal told Dutch broadcaster SBS6. "It doesn't seem to be too serious, but you never know. We didn't want to take any risks."

Van Persie has had much of his career disrupted by injury, but he has not missed a Premier League game since March 2011.

Since making his summer move to Old Trafford from Arsenal for £24 million, Van Persie has scored four goals in three matches.

United also face worries over another star summer signing, Shinji Kagawa.

The 23-year-old pulled out of the game in Saitama an hour before kick-off having felt a twinge in his lower back during training the previous day.

"I underwent treatment for as long as possible before the match and (Japan coach Alberto Zaccheroni) waited for me," said the playmaker.

"I felt a twinge and didn't want to take the risk," added the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder, who watched the Group B game from the stands.

"It's not a serious injury and I don't think it will keep me out for long. I can walk without any problem but if I put strain on it it still hurts."

Wigan visit Old Trafford on Saturday having never taken a point off their hosts in seven previous league visits. However, the last time they played them, at the DW Stadium back in April, they secured a famous 1-0 victory which sparked their late and successful fight against relegation.
