Unsportsmanlike Conduct Following WSOF 29 Sidelines Justin Gaethje Indefinitely

Justin Gaethje and Michael Johnson Headline TUF 25 Finale

It's not often that a mixed martial arts sanctioning body hands down an indefinite suspension due to unsportsmanlike conduct. But that's what the Colorado Boxing Commission did to lightweight champion Justin Gaethje following World Series of Fighting's recent event in Greeley, Colo.

After Gaethje took out Brian Foster less than 2 minutes into their WSOF 29 headlining bout at Bank of Colorado Arena on Saturday, March 12, he did his usual post-fight celebration, which included a backflip off the top of the cage fencing. The problem with Gaethje's celebration is that it is against Colorado's rules and he was warned prior to the fight that he wasn't allowed to do it. News of Gaethje's suspension was first reported by The MMA Report.

The backflip put Gaethje on the sidelines indefinitely. As of the time of publication, Colorado Boxing Commission officials had not responded to a request for a comment on the suspension.

Aside from Gaethje's indefinite suspension, the only other lengthy suspension was given to his opponent. Foster was suspended for 180 days due to a left knee injury, unless he gets the knee cleared earlier by a doctor.
