The second cycle of the ICC World Test Championship kickstarted with the Test series between India and England, The five-match series started at Trent Bridge from August 4. The first Test ended in a draw with England skipper Joe Root scoring his 21st Test ton. He scored another ton in the Lord’s Test as well but could not quite inspire his team to victory.

India won the second Test at Lord’s and went onto make history. This was only their third Test match win at this venue and perhaps the most memorable one. They were on the backfoot at the end of day 4. They did not start off well too on the final day losing two wickets quickly.

However, the 89*run partnership between Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami took India to a place of strength. That partnership helped them come back into the game and get to a position from where they thought of winning the Test match.

India Second On ICC World Test Championship Points Table

Meanwhile, after India’s win at Lord’s they are placed in the second position in the points table as of now. West Indies are topping the table having beaten Pakistan in the first Test in Jamaica by just one wicket. The match went right down to the wire with Kemar Roach keeping a calm head to win the match for his team. England and Pakistan are placed third and fourth respectively at the moment.

The Indian bowlers made the task difficult for the England batters in the second innings. A target of 272 became almost impossible when their openers were dismissed with no runs on the board. They lost the wickets of Bairstow and Root on the score of 67 and from there on it was too big a mountain to climb for the England lower-middle order and the tailenders. Finally, they were bowled out for 120 with still 49 balls to spare.

Given the way how the England batters batted in the second innings, former cricket experts are expecting India to win the series 4-0 or 3-1.
