From the onset, Faber looked like the quicker fighter. He was fast to commit to combinations and Pickett was slow to counter. Towards the end of the opening round, Faber landed a strong left hook that floored his opponent. For the remainder of the frame, Faber worked for submissions and applied furious ground and pound.

Pickett was bloody and swollen heading into the second round. Faber continued to control the pace of the fight by utilizing combinations and changing levels. He brought the fight to the ground nearly at will and was threatening submissions from almost every angle.

Faber remained the stronger fighter through the third. His use of the trip takedown proved effective and put Pickett down nearly every time the two clinched. As time expired, Faber put a big smile on his face and the beginning of his post-career life began on the waves of a win, thanking his hometown of Sacramento and saying he's ready to move on from fighting.
