Uruguay reach record FIFA ranking of fifth

Newly-crowned South American champions Uruguay have leapt 13 places up to fifth in the latest FIFA world rankings.

Last year's World Cup semi-finalists claimed a record 15th Copa America title on Sunday with their 3-0 win over Paraguay in Buenos Aires and have been rewarded with a rise to their highest-ever placing in the standings.

Brazil move up one place to fourth despite their disappointing campaign ending in the quarter-finals, while hosts Argentina remain 10th after they also crashed out at the same stage.

After leaping into the top 10 last month by virtue of their CONCACAF Gold Cup triumph, Mexico's young side exited the Argentina tournament in the group phase without a single point - that has seen them drop back down to 20th.

The upward shifts of Uruguay and Brazil mean England, as expected, have been shunted out of fourth position.

The top three of Spain, Netherlands and Germany remains unchanged.
