US Ambassador thanks RAF Brize Norton as Ukrainian vets fly to Warrior Games

The Ukrainian team taking part in this year's Warrior Games flew out of RAF Brize Norton yesterday afternoon.

The Games help enhance the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded veterans by providing them with exposure to adaptive sports.

Hosted by the US Army, hundreds of elite athletes, including from their allied nations, compete in events such as wheelchair basketball, cycling, indoor rowing, and wheelchair rugby, among others.

They will take place at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort from August 19-28.

The United States Ambassador to the UK Jane Hartley tweeted her thanks to RAF Brize Norton and everyone who made it possible for the Ukrainian veterans to compete.

Ms Hartley wrote: "The strength & bravery they have shown in the face of Russia's aggression will be on full display when the games start tomorrow."

RAF Brize Norton said it was "an absolute pleasure" to enable the journey.

"An absolutely phenomenal group of people showing huge strength through adversity. RAF Brize Norton was proud to help make it happen," they said.
