It was a dramatic day of tennis on women's semi-finals day in New York, with Serena Williams - chasing a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam - beaten in the semi-finals after a stunning fightback from Victoria Azarenka.

The Belarusian will play in her first Grand Slam final since the 2013 Australian Open after completing a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over the 38-year-old American, who was hampered by an ankle injury in the final set.

It wasn't an easy ride for 2018 winner Naomi Osaka either as she battled past 28th seed Jennifer Brady, who was competing in the last four at a Grand Slam event for the first time.

The Japanese needed three sets to finally see off the American 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 in a fascinating contest at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
