Argentina star Del Potro, the 2009 champion, has seen his career derailed by a series of injuries, undergoing surgery on his troublesome left wrist earlier this year.

He had hoped to return in time for the season's final Grand Slam, but the 25-year-old is now unlikely to resurface until next season.

The 6'6" world number 11 is a top-four player on his day, but first started to experience problems when he had an operation on his right wrist in 2010.

That setback saw him almost drop out of the top 500, but Del Potro fought back to the higher tier of tennis, reaching semi-finals at Wimbledon, Australia and the 2012 Olympics.

His last tournament win was the 2014 ATP Sydney event, but - after going out of the Australian Open in the second round - 'DelPo' has only played four matches due to wrist pain.
