USC players, staff safe after plane tipped back on tarmac ahead of Washington State game

USC players, coaches and staff are all safe after their plane tipped backward on the tarmac after landing in Lewiston, Idaho, on Friday night ahead of Saturday’s game against Washington State.

The Trojans landed in Lewiston — which sits about 30 miles southeast of Pullman, Washington, right on the border — on a United flight on Friday night.

The plane was sitting on the tarmac and some players had already deboarded, according to ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura. Yet suddenly, as many coaches and staff members were still on board, the back of the plane fell to the ground.

The nose was sent up into the air after the grounds crew reportedly didn’t put the tail stand properly in place upon arrival.

Thankfully, everyone on board the plane was fine. The crew quickly leveled the plane and everyone exited safely.

The Trojans, who are playing their first game after coach Clay Helton was fired following last week’s loss to Stanford, fell into a 14-7 hole at halftime before rallying to take the dominant 45-14 win.
