Usman Khawaja Reckons Justin Langer Deserves To Coach Australia For T20 World Cup And Ashes
Australian batsman Usman Khawaja has come in support of coach Justin Langer and stated that Langer deserves a run until the Ashes despite not having done well recently. Australia head coach Justin Langer has been under immense scrutiny after having lost the T20 international series to West Indies and Bangladesh.
The rumors have been developing of differences inside the Australian dressing room and Langer has been made the scapegoat for Australia’s recent struggles. But certain experts and the players of the Australian side have backed the former Australian opener to come good soon.
“Give Justin Langer As Many Opportunities As You Can” – Usman Khawaja
Usman Khawaja has shown voiced out his opinion on Justin Langer’s future that has been in jeopardy and he claimed that the head coach deserves an opportunity until the T20 World Cup and the Ashes get over. He compared the theory of players getting an extended run to see if they can change anything and he wanted the same for the coach as well.
“He deserves the opportunity to coach Australia in the T20 World Cup, he deserves the opportunity to coach Australia in The Ashes,”
“If after all that, things are still not going well … that is when you look at things and think ‘OK, maybe do we need to change something’.
Just like you would with a player, give him as many opportunities as you can. Khawaja said.
Usman Khawaja Disappointed With The Team’s Reactions
Usman Khawaja is worried about Justin Langer going through a lot from the outside as well as from the inside of the team. He felt that the team shouldn’t reveal anything that has been speculation inside the dressing room and claimed that the performances of Australia were on the player’s fault rather than the coach.
“How do you think JL feels? He probably feels like the guys in the team are stabbing him in the back. And that’s what it looks like,”
“That’s why it’s so disappointing. It’s a really bad look and it’s something the group needs to sort out ASAP.”
“It’s not always 100 per cent the coach’s fault. The guys aren’t performing, the players have to take ownership at some stage,” he added.
Usman Khawaja has been out of the Australian side for more than a year now and he will look to have a strong season and get back on the side.
