Mikel Arteta’s side have averaged 2.46 points per game so far and are on track to pick up 93 points over the season.

As they are no longer in the Europa League, Arsenal can now turn their full attention to the final 10 Premier League matches.

Van Persie has been discussing Arsenal’s title chances and what he thinks will be important for the Gunners during the run-in.

“If you look at this period of time, this is where every single point really counts,” Van Persie told Sky Sports.

“They’ve had a couple of difficult games recently. They got the three points there, and that is what makes a champion’s team.

“They’ve been proving that. But the last stretch is always the difficult one, so it’ll be interesting to see.

“But my personal feeling is that they will go for it – that they will win the league. It’s been a while, so I’m happy for them to win it.”

Arsenal will return to Premier League action this weekend against Leeds United at the Emirates.

April is likely to be a decisive month for Arteta’s side as they face the likes of Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea within the month.

Due to their lead at the top, they can afford to drop some points in those matches, but Man City will be hot on their heels if they do.

Speaking after Arsenal’s 4-1 triumph over Crystal Palace, Arteta admitted it feels good to be where they are right now.

“It feels very good [being eight points clear], especially with the way we have played and the results we have picked up.

“Now we must stop and make sure everyone comes back from the internationals with the same mindset. We have Leeds next and we put the focus there.

“The reaction he [Martinelli] had after missing a penalty [on Thursday]. There is always the question, but I asked him yesterday how he was and he said: ‘I want to be in the team’.

“He [Saka] was disappointed not to get a hat-trick. That is what we need. We need our front players firing and making the difference and today they did that again.”
