The Argos-Shimano rider triumphed on the 182.6km Belgian one-day race, which took place over 15 laps of a flat circuit.

A breakaway of seven riders remained out to the finish in Flanders, where Dutchman Van Zandbeek crossed five seconds ahead of Dane Christopher Juul-Jensen (Saxo Bank-Tinkoff Bank) with Belgian Kurt Hovelijnck (Landbouwkrediet-Euphony) at the head of a group of four riders three seconds further back.

Those following were Tosh Van der Sande, Eliot Lietaer and Björn Thurau.

”Chris did a very good job out there. A few days ago, he could smell the victory in GP Wallonie and today he got even closer," said Saxo Bank sports director Fabrizio Guidi afterwards of his second-placed rider.

"When they hit the five-minute gap, they knew that they could take the win and at the finale, Chris attacked several times [but] in a counter-attack Zandbeek managed to slip away."
