Vanoss sweeps past Silo on the road

Feb. 2—SILO — The Vanoss Wolves made a double-digit first-half lead hold up and held off Silo 68-61 for a big road win on Tuesday.

Coach Jonathon Hurt's club, ranked No. 16 in Class 2A, improved to 12-9 on the year and snapped a four-game losing streak, Silo fell to 10-11 on the year.

In the girls' contest, Vanoss socked Silo 40-29. The Lady Wolves, No. 6 in Class 2A, improved to 19-2 while Silo slumped to 12-9.

Vanoss is scheduled to host a festival on Saturday. The event will kick off with the Roff girls meeting Amber-Pocasset at 1 p.m. and the Roff boys meeting Am-Po at 2:30 p.m. Both Vanoss teams will then battle Buffalo Valley at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Vanoss will host Roff on Monday for Senior Night. Those activities are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

The VHS clubs then travel to Dale on Tuesday.


Vanoss 68, Silo 61

The Wolves held a slim 18-17 lead after the first quarter but used a 16-7 run in the second period to build a 34-24 halftime advantage. Vanoss still led 49-38 heading into the fourth quarter before the Rebels ended the game on a 23-19 run.

Sophomore Karver Trentham erupted for a team-high 22 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. He also made two fourth-quarter free throws.

Logan Hulbutta followed with 20 points and sank four 3-point shots. Layne Thrower was next with 18 points and finished 4-of-5 from the free-throw line.

Charlie Garner led all scorers with 27 points for Silo — including 18 in the second half. Hayden Roberts followed with 21 points for the Rebels.

Silo finished 9-of-10 from the free-throw line while Vanoss made only 8-of-18 attempts from the line,


Vanoss 40, Silo 29

The Lady Wolves did it with defense, holding Silo to single-digit scoring in every quarter.

Vanoss led 15-7 after the first period and had built a 26-15 advantage by halftime. Both teams had identical second halves, scoring five points each in the third quarter and nine points apiece in the fourth period.

Avery Ellis led the Vanoss offense with 18 points and hit one 3-pointer, while Eryn Khoury also reached double digits with 11. She also made one 3-point basket.

Ryleigh Pierce paced the Lady Rebels with nine points and Makyla Clark added seven points. Both players hit one 3-pointer.

Vanoss finished 8-of-14 from the free-throw stripe and Silo went 5-of-6 from the line.
