A transfer insider believes there is a ‘very, very good chance’ Liverpool will sign an England international for Jurgen Klopp next year, with the Reds also being told how to complete the move.
England qualified from World Cup Group B in first place after picking up two wins and a draw from three matches, scoring nine goals in the process. And they went on to beat Senegal 3-0 in the round of 16, with goals coming from Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka.
That victory saw the Three Lions book their place in the last eight. And they will come up against reigning champions France in the quarter-finals on Saturday.
The opponent pretty much every England fan is talking about is Paris Saint-German attacker Kylian Mbappe. He is the top scorer at the World Cup as things stand, having found the net fives times.
Gareth Southgate is likely to select Kyle Walker at right-back for England. He is one of the few defenders in world football who possesses the pace to keep up with, and potentially stop, Mbappe.
At Thursday’s pre-match press conference, Walker said he wouldn’t ‘roll out a red carpet’ for Mbappe. And the Manchester City star added that Mbappe wouldn’t ‘stand in my way’ for a World Cup winners’ medal.
While France have Mbappe, Olivier Giroud and Ousmane Dembele, England can rely on the likes of Kane, Saka and Jude Bellingham to score some of their goals.
Bellingham got England’s first goal in the 6-2 thrashing of Iran on November 21. And he will be looking to add to his tally this weekend.
Liverpool battling Real Madrid for England ace
The Borussia Dortmund midfielder is the subject of an intense transfer race right now. Liverpool are vying with Real Madrid to get to his signature.
According to German outlet SportBILD, Liverpool have set aside €100million (£86.4m) to capture Bellingham from Dortmund.
However, this will not be enough to convince the Bundesliga outfit on a sale. That’s because their valuation of the 19-year-old sits closer to €150m (£129.5m). Therefore, Liverpool need to allocate far more money if they are to improve their midfield with Bellingham’s arrival.
While that represents slightly bad news for Reds fans, there has now been a rather positive update. According to German journalist Christian Falk, who has conducted an interview with Empire of the Kop, Liverpool are in a great position to sign the teenager.
When asked about the prospective transfer, Falk said: “There is a very, very good chance. The answer is ‘yes’ because he would like to be there.”
Falk then told Liverpool exactly what they must do to get Bellingham’s move over the line. “But, at the end you know, the clubs have to talk and Liverpool have to bring the money,” the reporter added.
“Dortmund is, at the end, the club who is saying ‘yes or no’, or ‘we keep him’.
“We have seen [Erling] Haaland and players before, they always get the money, they hold the players. In the case of Haaland there was a release clause so they had not much time left. But they can hold the players if the money is not on the table, so better you bring it.”
Liverpool chiefs will be delighted to see Bellingham shining on the world’s biggest stage. The only downside is that this will increase his price tag.
Dortmund, meanwhile, will be rubbing their hands together over the star’s current form. They would love to keep him, but if they have to sell, they may as well do it for as much money as possible.
