If anyone had doubted Lionel Messi ahead of the El Clasico on Sunday, there could be no denying he remains one of the greatest players in the world following his match-winning contribution.
Messi scored twice, including an injury-time winner, outshining Real Madrid rival Cristiano Ronaldo and helping Barcelona claw back the initiative in the La Liga title race. The Catalan club are now top of the league table on goal difference having played a game more, but Messi's Barcelona will be confident of ramping up the pressure on their fierce rivals towards the end of the season.
The Argentina international has provided football fans with hundreds of unforgettable moments over the years, but Barcelona uploaded a video of Messi on Monday reminding everyone of his beginnings at the club, showcasing his debut in a clip rightly called: "The video you simply cannot miss."
The video shows how Messi scored his first goal for the club after having an earlier effort ruled out for offside during a May 2005 match against Albacete, lobbing the goalkeeper from former team-mate Ronaldinho's assist.
Almost 12 years later and Messi is still producing, having reached his 500th goal during the El Clasico derby in perhaps the best way possible.
Barcelona's next match is a home tie against Osasuna, while Real Madrid face a trip to Deportivo La Coruna.
