Passion was clearly running high as Atletico Madrid found a late equaliser against rivals Real Madrid on Saturday, Antoine Griezmann levelling the scores with minutes remaining to cancel out Pepe's opening goal.
Never one to show much self-restraint, Simeone was as animated as ever when the French striker found the net. His actions, however, have been construed by some of the Spanish press as provocative towards opposite number Zinedine Zidane.
Zidane, though, is almost the antithesis of Simeone, and seemed typically unperturbed by the celebrations surrounding him.
At full-time Simeone didn't hold back, clearly delighted and probably somewhat relieved that he had prevented Zidane's side emerging from the derby with a win that would have further strengthened their title credentials.
Having said that, it could prove to be a point gained for Real Madrid, after Barcelona were beaten at Malaga later in the day. Los Blancos are now three points clear at the top with a game in hand.
Atletico remain in third place after the draw, although just a point ahead of Sevilla in fourth, who beat Deportivo 4-2.
