Football pundit extraordinaire Michael Owen has set himself up for ridicule on Twitter (again) after claiming that Liverpool won the 2016 Europa League whilst on live TV.
The BT Sport pundit, notorious for stating the obvious (and the incorrect), left viewers stunned with another ground-breaking statement; this time getting his facts completely wrong during half-time analysis of Manchester United’s clash with FC Rostov.

The former England international star seems to have forgotten that Liverpool, despite reaching the final, were defeated by Sevilla in the 2016 Europa League Final showdown, losing 3-1 on the night.
When asked about United’s Europa League chances, Owen replied on BT Sport (via The Sun): “It’s a difficult competition to win, you look at Liverpool winning it last season and they played some unbelievably hard teams.”
And as always, Michael Owen got destroyed by Twitter users licking their lips at another instalment from the ex-Liverpool striker's ludicrous statement:
One user claimed: “Why do BT still pay Michael Owen actual money to say things though?”
Another wrote, “@themichaelowen you never seem to amaze me. Liverpool won the Europa League last year! What a Melon.”

Michael Owen again proving ex-pros shouldn't automatically get jobs in football whether it's punditry or coaching.
