Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has urged the Old Trafford club to do all they can to sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid.

Speaking to ITV Sport, Keane expressed his ‘surprise’ at the progress Griezmann has made over the last couple of years, as he backed the Frenchman to be a success at United.

United have been persistently linked with an £85m move to sign Griezmann in recent month, with the Old Trafford club believed to have identified the France marksman as their chief transfer target for next summer.

Meanwhile, Keane was a little less than complimentary about United boss Jose Mourinho, as he suggested he would ‘like to see a but more humility’ from Portuguese tactician after a good run of results for his team.

When presenter Mark Pougatch suggested Mourinho had a bit of swagger back in his stride, Keane offered up these comments: “That is a pity really because the you’d like to see a but more humility from the guy.

“But you knew that once they started winning a few games, yeah, he would get back to his old cocky self.”

Keane clashed with Mourinho back in 2014 during his time as Aston Villa assistant manager, as he was not impressed by an offer to shake his hand from the then Chelsea boss before the final whistle had been blown in a game at Stamford Bridge.

These latest comments suggest the animosity built up over that incident and what Keane doubtless perceives as Mourinho’s arrogance add up to concoction that ensures he is never likely to be his biggest admirer.
