Viktor Gyokeres puts Liverpool on red alert with latest transfer comments
Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres has put clubs across Europe on alert after leaving door open to a move next summer.
The Swedish striker, who arrived in Lisbon last season from Coventry, has done nothing but score goal after goal so far during his time in Portugal. Last term he bagged 43 goals in 50 games, and has so far started the new 2024/25 campaign in red hot form.
Gyokeres has scored 12 goals and registered five assists so far this season for club and country. Eight of those goals have come in domestic action, with another coming in the Champions League this week when Sporting took on Lille, who they beat 2-0.
Due to the impressive amount of goals he scored last term, and his red hot form so far this season, Gyokeres has been linked with clubs all over Europe, with Liverpool one of the sides reportedly interested in signing the Swede.
And recently, he put clubs on alert by confirming he has a release fee clause in his contract, which could open the door to him leaving next summer. "Yes, the release clause into my contract is high but I’m happy at Sporting," Gyokeres said via Fabrizio Romano.
"I had no problems when I had to stay here for one more season. My value is there and that’s it now, we will see when something happens."
It has previously been reported that Gyokeres has a $111m (£83m/€100m) release fee clause in his contract, which proved to be a stumbling block for some clubs this past summer. However, FootballTransfers claim Sporting would be open to selling the Swede in January, or the summer, for less than his reported release fee clause.
Liverpool.com says: "With everyone on the hunt for a prototype-Haaland-esque striker, Viktor Gyokeres would fit the bill for a number of clubs keen on bringing in a top class forward this coming summer.
"Strong, fast, and deadly in front of goal, Gyokeres will surely be on the move next summer if a club can find common ground with Sporting over a fee for the Swede. Arsenal are also said to be interested in the Sporting striker, so Liverpool would need to act swiftly if they view him as the perfect forward to lead Arne Slot's attack.
"That said, there's every chance they may be slightly concerned after how their last big money signing striker, Darwin Nunez, has fared since his 2022 switch to Merseyside from Benfica, which could put doubts in the Reds minds."
