Viljami Sinisalo told Celtic transfer would be 'great' but he should target English Championship

He is just one of the many goalkeeping names to have been linked with Celtic already in the close season. And Viljami Sinisalo has been told it's a move that would be "great" for him.

The Finland shotstopper, 22, is on the books at Aston Villa and seriously impressed on loan at Exeter City in League One last season. He's unlikely to go back to the Champions League qualifiers and get a game next season and so another loan would appear to be on the cards.

And the man who was competing for the gloves with him at the Grecians has told him he's far too good to be going back to that level. Shaun MacDonald says the English Championship would be the ideal destination for Sinisalo but also reckons the Hoops would be an appealing one after seeing reports of their interest.

He told the Athletic: "He’s wasting his time coming back to League One next year. I’ve said that openly and he agrees. He’s got a year left on his contract, so he would probably have to sign a new deal if he was going on loan again. I would say move to the Championship. I saw stories about Celtic, so something like that would be great.”

Sinisalo previously spent a season on loan at Ayr United and has since been with Burton Albion as well as Gary Caldwell's Exeter. He has a contract with Villa until next summer.
