India captain Virat Kohli stated on Tuesday that the team which played in the victorious second Test at Lord’s will most likely remain the same for the third Test against England unless there are niggles amongst players.

India won the second Test at Lord’s by 151 runs after the team bowlers ran riots in the defence of England batsmen, as the hosts were bowled out for 120 inside 52 overs, a task that many thought would be arduous.

We don’t have any reason to change anything unless people have niggles: Virat Kohli

The team comprised of four pace bowlers in Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Siraj with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was played as the lone spinner.

Ahead of the third Test, the Indian skipper thinks that the team with a winning combination shouldn’t split away and for that reason he would continue with the same team in the next Test at Headingley in Leeds.

“We don’t have any reason to change anything unless people have niggles, which we haven’t encountered. A winning combination, you don’t want to disturb. Especially after the second Test and players are even more excited to take the field,” Kohli said in a virtual press conference ahead of the third Test.

Wait for Ravichandran Ashwin to continue after Virat Kohli’s statement

Kohli’s statement would mean that Tamil Nadu off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will have to wait to make his first appearance in this series. Ashwin was benched for the first two Tests as Jadeja was picked ahead of him and Shardul Thakur, who was ruled out of the Lord’s Test due to a hamstring injury will also be benched.

India are currently leading the five-Test series 1-0 and the third Test will start on Wednesday (August 25).
