Former England cricketer Nasser Hussain has said that Indian skipper Virat Kohli will judge himself on the results of the next three Test matches against England rather than his own batting. Virat Kohli has shown a great example of leadership in ongoing India’s tour of England. India, who suffered a 3-1 loss in the 2018 England tour, has earned a 1-0 lead against the Joe Root-led English side after two games.

However, Virat Kohli has thoroughly struggled with the bat in the ongoing tour. The right-handed batsman’s scores across the three innings so far read 0, 42, and 20. Since November 2019, the 32-year-old has not smacked a single century in any of the formats. The Indian captain has also dropped to 5th rank in ICC Test rankings for batsmen.

Virat Kohli Seems Vulnerable Again Outside Off-Stump: Nasser Hussain

In his column for Daily Mail, former England skipper Nasser Hussain wrote that Virat Kohli’s batting has been affected due to his pursuit for a Test series win against England.

“You could argue that Kohli is putting so much into the captaincy of India now in his pursuit of a first Test series win in England as skipper that it has taken something away from his batting.

“He seems vulnerable again outside off-stump, as he was when he played here in 2014. Certainly he got out after a nothing shot to a wide ball from Sam Curran at Lord’s and the Kohli of the 2018 tour would have left that”, Hussain said.

Nasser Hussain also asserted that Kohli will judge himself on the results of the next three matches rather than his own scores.

“But he knows how much it will mean to India to win this series. And he will judge himself on the results of the next three Tests rather than the runs he scores. He’d certainly be gutted if he scored centuries at Leeds and the Oval but lost the series anyway”, the 53-year-old further wrote.

Hussain also mentioned that Virat Kohli likes to get under the skin of opposition teams and his aggression is aimed at winding up the opposition.

“Kohli’s aggression is aimed at winding up the opposition and he gets under the skin of every team he plays against. I’m sure most don’t particularly like playing against him and English supporters won’t particularly like him but he won’t care a jot about that,” Hussain further wrote.
