Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has claimed off-spinner Harbhajan Singh to be the biggest prankster in the Indian team back in his playing days. He also revealed a couple of instances where they managed to ‘scare’ the team management staff with masks that Harbhajan bought from the US.

The Indian team of the 2000s was a well-oiled machine on the field. Off it, they were equally light-hearted and generally pulled each other’s legs from time to time. Sehwag was involved in plenty of funny incidents, but when asked about the biggest prankster on the team, he took Harbhajan’s name.

It has to be Harbhajan Singh. If you ask anyone from that team, they would name him. In 2001, Harbhajan had got some scary masks from the US. So we put on those masks at night and decided to scare everyone. The first on the list was our computer analyst Nandan.

The second one was Reetinder Singh Sodhi, who actually took out his bat to hit us. We had to run away quickly from there. That is when we told him, it was only a prank,” Sehwag revealed during the launch of his clothing line ‘VS’.

Continuing his stories from the olden days, Sehwag mentioned that it was the ‘Master Blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar who infused a sense of fashion into the team. He went on to state that the left-arm pacer, Ashish Nehra, was the one with the worst fashion sense.

Sachin told us to wear branded clothes. During our times, he [Nehra] used to only wear Reebok T-shirts and shorts. But his life has completely changed now. He needed that push in the beginning, and once again Sachin was the one who guided us,” the 42-year-old Sehwag said.

Sehwag is currently commentating in Hindi for the ongoing 5-match Test series between England and India.
