Virgil van Dijk makes Liverpool promise after 100 per cent start under Arne Slot - 'Trust me'
Virgil van Dijk has promised Liverpool will continue to improve this season, even after making a perfect start to the Premier League season.
The Reds are back in action later today as they face Nottingham Forest at Anfield. Having been given a tough act to follow in Jurgen Klopp, Arne Slot has made the ideal start to life on Merseyside, winning all three of his games so far without conceding a goal.
Despite that impressive start, Slot is not choosing to rest on his laurels, and continues to insist there are still areas for his side to improve on. The Liverpool boss has already sent a message to his side following the 3-0 win over Manchester United – their last game before the international break.

And it’s a mantra that his players are also carrying, with Van Dijk suggesting that the Reds still haven’t yet met their full potential this season.
"To have taken nine points from three games, with seven goals scored and none conceded, and having played two of those three games away from home — including one at Old Trafford — means we are doing a lot of things right," he writes in the official matchday program.
"It gives us something to really build on going forward, but we also know that we are by no means the finished article yet. We can improve in every single aspect of the game, and that is a message that the head coach, his staff and us senior players will be reinforcing throughout the campaign, trust me.
“However good things look and feel, we must always be striving for more. I can assure you all that we will be doing exactly that.”
Liverpool is set for a busy few weeks following the international break, with games coming thick and fast as the Champions League gets underway in just a few days. The schedule will prove a big test for Slot and his squad as they return to Europe’s premier competition, while also looking to keep pace with Manchester City in the league.
“With the first international break out of the way, our attention now turns to a packed upcoming schedule,” Van Dijk added. “We play seven times across the next three weeks, in three different competitions, so we know we will need each and every member of the squad to be ready for the big challenges to come.
“First up are Forest, a team with a lot of talent, particularly in attacking areas, and one we will certainly not be taking lightly. They have given us some difficult games over the past couple of years, so we know that we will need to be at our best if we are to continue our promising start to the season.”
Liverpool.com says: It’s a good attitude to have, and Slot has emphasized the need for improvement after each game this season, demonstrating how much potential he sees in this side. If Van Dijk and co can keep another clean sheet today against Forest, it would be quite the achievement, and show how hard they’ve been working since last season.
