Virgil van Dijk picks between Everton and Man United with answer Liverpool supporters will love

Virgil van Dijk delivered the perfect answer when asked whether he would rather play for Everton or Manchester United.

The Liverpool captain has experienced his fair share of meetings with the Reds' fiercest rivals since signing in January 2018 and boasts an impressive record against both clubs.

Van Dijk has lost only one of his 12 meetings with the Blues, which came in the recent derby defeat at Goodison Park, and three of 12 against the Red Devils.

Already a popular figure among Liverpool supporters, the Dutch defender will have further endeared himself to fans after being asked to pick between the pair.

Bursting into laughter after hearing the two clubs mentioned, Van Dijk added: "I'm not even going to answer that question because it will never, ever happen!"

Van Dijk is no stranger to intense rivalries having previously been on the books of Celtic, though the 32-year-old only once experienced coming up against Rangers due to their demotion to the third division of Scottish football because of financial difficulties.

Asked to pick which fixture out of Everton and United means more, the 2019 Champions League winner told the Rest is Football Podcast: "The Merseyside Derby is always special, and it’s always tough, it’s intense, it’s a game on its own, and they [Everton] have been doing much better than the beginning years when I joined the club; it’s always difficult especially when we play away,"

“As a player, you want to be part of these games. It gives you an extra boost and means a little bit more. But the other games, as well, because everyone will watch those games.”
