Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman credited the Indian tailenders for their match-winning contributions with the bat down the order in the second Test at Lord’s. India was in all sorts of trouble after losing Rishabh Pant early on day five with the lead of just above 180 and it looked like the regular story of India folding up quickly with the last few wickets.

It did not happen this time as the hard work in the nets paid off for Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami with an unbeaten partnership of 89 for the ninth wicket and it came in a quick time too.

Shami brought up his second half-century in Tests while Bumrah finished unbeaten on 34. The short ball plans did not work for England and in the end, it proved too costly for them to lose the second Test at Lord’s.

VVS Laxman Feels Shami Is More Than Capable Of Batting

VVS Laxman hailed the Indian management who had worked hard with the lower order batters to improve their batting abilities and he was confident about Ishant Sharma being a good enough batter recalling the famous victory in 2010 against Australia. He also stated about Shami’s potential being a lot more with the bat and revealed his ability to hit sixes as well.

“Credit to the team management and all the tailenders. Ishant Sharma is more than capable of batting and I have had the experience of having those partnerships with him. Shami is more than capable of batting. You know that he can hit big sixes. I still remember that match against South Africa, where he hit a lot of sixes. VVS Laxman told ESPNCricinfo.

VVS Laxman Highlights The Improvements Of The Tailenders

VVS Laxman mentioned Umesh Yadav being a long hitter of the cricket ball down the order and will be useful when he comes into the playing XI. He added about Bumrah and Siraj adding a lot more contributions and was delighted to see their batting improvements.

“Umesh Yadav, who is not part of this playing XI, is a useful batsman. He has got a first-class hundred. Jasprit Bumrah, we have seen from the Australia series, how much value he is giving to his wicket and how much he has improved as far as his batting is concerned. Siraj, being from Hyderabad, I know that he can bat,” he added.

The Indian bowlers came in steaming with the ball and produced a fine performance to wrap up England in under 60 overs in the final innings.
