Wales wore special jerseys for former captain Matthew Rees

The welsh rugby team wore a special symbol on their jerseys this afternoon against Argentina to show support for former captain Matthew Rees.

The Cardiff Blues hooker is on an indefinite break from rugby as he undergoes extensive treatment for testicular cancer and his teammates decided to make a small addition to their match kit to show they are thinking of him.

Rees is know as ‘Smiler’ within the squad so with that in mind, the Welsh team wore jerseys with a purple smiley face stitched on to the right arm. Current skipper Sam Warburton explained the symbol to WalesOnline:

“The idea was a purple smiley face. The purple to represent the testicular cancer charities and the smiley face to represent Matthew as we know him – Smiler. For me personally he has been a great support in my career and hopefully in a small way this shows how we feel.”

A touch of class from the Welsh lads.
