DOLPHINS new boy Wes Fogden revealed the club’s ambitious new stadium plans played a part in his decision to join Poole Town.

Former Cherries utility man Fogden arrives at the BlackGold Stadium after achieving promotion with similarly striving Dorking Wanderers last term.

Poole are looking to build a new home that could potentially reach a capacity of 12,000 – although plans have yet to be submitted.

The Southern League outfit are hoping to submit a planning application in August, with the idea of a modular design that can be increased following promotions to higher levels.

Speaking after he had seen the plans, Fogden told the Daily Echo: “It’s very exciting. One of the reasons I signed for Dorking was because of their vision and progression to build as a club.

“Players and staff should want to be a part of something potentially very special.”

In his career Fogden has already achieved four promotions – including helping Cherries into the Championship in 2013.

Poole’s summer business underlines their pre-season ambitions of promotion, with 34-year-old Fogden certainly singing from the same hymn sheet.

Whilst the midfielder is aiming high, his personal previous experience means he knows promotion is not simply earnt.

“(Promotion -) it’s the best feelings you can have in your career,” mentioned Fogden.

“Winning, and promotions, are what we take from our careers, and I want as many as I can.

“I’m not sure you can be confident of promotion because every team will have the same ambitions, but it’s about who wants it the most over the whole season, and who is consistently driven to win over and over again.

“I know the club’s, and Tom’s (Poole manager, Tom Killick) vision, is to get promoted back to the National South, and I want to try and help make this happen.”

Poole have returned to training ahead of their pre-season schedule that begins with a trip to Wessex League new boys Hamworthy Recreation on Thursday, July 7 (kick-off 7pm).
