Two Warrington Wolves youngsters are pursuing their rugby league dreams in Australia after joining Queensland Cup team Townsville Blackhawks.

Alfie Mather and Pat Irwin will link up with the club down under, who are coached by former Hull KR playmaker Terry Campese.

Both Mather and Irwin have climbed the ranks at the Wire, but neither were able to make their debut for the Super League club. Now, they will relocate down under to continue their rugby league careers.

They will be joined there by former Leigh Leopards player Tom Nisbet, who Rugby League Live revealed would also be joining the Blackhawks last month.

Speaking to 7NEWS Townsville, Mather said: “I started playing when I was four, I got picked up at Warrington Wolves’ Under-16s when I was 15 I think, and then I joined the academy which is Under-18s and I played a few games for the reserves as well.

“I was meant to be coming with two other lads from Warrington but they backed out at the last second. Pat was going the whole time but I didn’t actually know Pat was coming!”

Jack Campagnolo, the former London Broncos halfback, is also heading to the club next season following their relegation from Super League.
