WATCH: Incredible try-saving slide that has become an internet sensation

James Shrader will never forget his touch as a Southland player as it not only prevented a five-pointer but has also gone viral

James Shrader has become a worldwide sensation with his try-saving move

What a way to make an impression for your new team.

On his debut, Southland’s James Shrader had only been on the pitch for two minutes and it looked certain his side would concede a try. He had not even touched the ball for his new team.

Auckland’s Lolagi Visinia had done just enough to break through a tackle and was set to score a try as he reached forward.

However, Shrader saw the danger and slid along the in-goal area and just as the ball was about to be grounded, simply plucked the ball from Visinia’s hands and cleared the danger.

It proved to be crucial too as the match finished 23-all.

Shrader is now an internet sensation as his incredible try-saving move has gone viral.

And he modestly said: “It's all a bit bizarre, I don't know what to make of it really. I didn’t realise until when I got back in the sheds and seen a whole bunch of messages saying how miraculous it was.

But honestly at the time we were straight back on defence and I had no time to reflect, it was just next job. But when I come off the field it was all go.”
