Number eight Brayden Iose was on the end of a stunning move from the Hurricanes in their 45-42 win over the Western Force on Sunday in Super Rugby Pacific.

The lineout set on the attacking 22 metres line and was taken cleanly. The Hurricanes dummied going to the openside but switched the ball and went down the narrow side freeing up the dangerous Dane Coles, who ultimately threw a casual pass inside for Iose.

It really was one of those moments where the training ground move works brilliantly on the day.

The hosts got off to a flying start, with Du’Plessis Kirifi crashing over in only the third minute. Centre Jordie Barrett on hand to add the extras from the tee. Iose would go over three minutes later for his first try with the conversion successful again.

The Force responded fairly quickly through Jeremy Williams, who scored in the 10th minute, while scrum-half Gareth Simpson made no mistake from the tee.

Momentum swung hugely in the favour of the Hurricanes, who scored through Coles in the 20th minute, and Iose’s second in the 33rd minute, as Barrett only managed one conversion but still handed his side a healthy lead at the break.

The Hurricanes continued their charge and opened the scoring in the second period through an unconverted Bailyn Sullivan try in the 48th minute.

Simpson would pull one back for his side in the 58th minute as he scored and converted his own try. However, Kini Naholo struck back minutes later for the Hurricanes, with Barrett kicking this conversion successfully.

The Force would not lie down as Zach Kibirige responded with only 16 minutes left in the game as Simpson added the extras. The see-saw would continue as Hame Faiva crossed for the hosts’ final try of the game.

The Hurricanes left the door open for a late surge from the Force, who ran in late tries through Siosifa Amone, Jake Strachan and a second for Kibirige.
