WATCH: Magnificent Madrid Open shots from Rafael Nadal, Gael Monfils, and co
The Madrid Open has already seen some incredible moments on display. So, let’s look back at some immaculate efforts from last year’s tournament, with Rafael Nadal, Gael Monfils, and co.
Djokovic and Monfils certainly put up a memorable rally in last year’s round of 32. The stars produced outrageous devoted efforts to keep the point going. Monfils played the perfect tweener shot that would have stunned many players- except Djokovic, who replied with a soft-handed dink to have the last laugh.
“Oh, what a point. Monfils showcasing his speed,” said the commentator. It was a brilliant spell of play from the competitors that truly showed us what they are capable of.
The match ended 6-3, 6-2 after one hour and 28 minutes, in favour of the Serbinator.
Andy Murray produced his own spell of magic over Denis Shapavlov. Murray made a darting run to the net to create an immaculate effort to seal off the point. The 35-year-old then went on to win the match 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 in two hours and nine minutes.
The baffled commentator couldn’t believe what he was seeing and asked the question that many fans were wondering, “Oh, come on. What is Andy Murray producing out here?” Unfortunately, Murray could not carry this magic into the undergoing Madrid Open, resulting in an early exit.
Wunderkind Carlos Alcaraz managed to grace the game with his own piece of lethality in his match against British star Cameron Norrie. The rising star caught his opponent out with a superb flick of the wrist to send the ball just out of reach of his opponent’s racket. The-19-year-old sealed the match with a narrow 7-6, 5-7, 6-7 win over Norrie.
The Spaniard stunned all in witness of the shot, leaving the commentator to say, “Oh no. How has he done that?” That was a clinical shot from a brilliant player.
Of course, the ‘King of Clay’ Rafael Nadal would appear in his castle. Nadal secured a brilliant 6-1, 7-6 win over Miomir Kecmanovic, but only after producing some scintillating shots. The pair had put up quite the rally but was ended by an assertive Nadal bullet that was his way of showing that he was done playing around.
“Oh, that is just off the charts good from Rafael Nadal,” remarked the commentator, because that was a real show-stopper of a shot.
Only a few players have been able to defeat Nadal on his surface, but Alcaraz certainly did so, and in style, by beating him with a confident 2-6, 6-1, 3-6 win over his Spanish hero.
The young talent easily became a crowd favourite after his impressive match-winner shot against Nadal. The 19-year-old delivered a peach of a strike with sniper-like precision to knock Nadal out.
“Oh, he’s got it, what a way to win it,” said the excited commentator, because that was impeccable from the young star.
Hopefully, the stars will shine again with more scintillating shots at the undergoing Madrid Open.
