As so often happens in football when cup draws come around, Newcastle United find themselves facing Chelsea for the second successive game. Three days on from a 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League, Newcastle are at St James' Park to host their league rivals in the last-16 of the Carabao Cup.

A place in the quarter-finals is the prize at stake for the winner, with Eddie Howe's team bidding to pick up their first victory since squeezing past AFC Wimbledon in the third round of the competition at the start of October. Newcastle are in need of a win to breathe new life into their season, but are also desperate to keep alive their trophy chances with the league cup representing the best opportunity at present to win a trophy this season.

Only once this century have Newcastle won a quarter-final tie in this competition, when reaching the final in the 2022/23 season, but first they must get there and to do that they'll need to beat Chelsea, who knocked them out on penalties in the last-eight stage last season.
