The French forward was in inspired form in Tuesday's heavyweight pre-season friendly against Juventus in Dallas, netting twice in the space of six minutes in a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Cotton Bowl Stadium.
Dembele's first goal was particularly special as he picked up possession from Sergino Dest on the right flank and then dazzled with sublime footwork, leaving three defenders with twisted blood as he drove forward, cut inside and slalomed wonderfully into the penalty area before lashing a low drive into the opposite corner beyond the despairing dive of Wojciech Szczesny.
Juventus hit back swiftly through Moise Kean, only for Barcelona to immediately retake the lead with another eye-catching Dembele effort, again driving in off the right flank and showing more blinding feet as he nutmegged one player and then beat another before picking out the same far corner.
Dembele marked his special brace with the "night night" gesture made famous by Steph Curry during the Golden State Warriors' run to the 2022 NBA Championship earlier this summer, with Curry himself tweeting: "A movement!!"
Barca and Juve eventually drew 2-2 in Texas after Kean blasted home his second shortly after half-time.
Dembele was previously on Chelsea's transfer radar, frequently linked with a move to Stamford Bridge before the club's £50million deal to sign England forward Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.
The 25-year-old's Barcelona future had been left in severe doubt after a rocky and topsy-turvy few months regarding his contract saga, but he finally ended speculation over an exit from Camp Nou by penning a new two-year deal earlier this month after his previous agreement had expired in June.
The oft-injured Dembele had been told to leave Barcelona in January after refusing to pen an extension, but he now looks set to play a key part in their future under Xavi.
“He has shown what he is capable of. He is different, special. There are not many of this type,” said the Barca boss. “He gives us a lot with the way we play.
“Not everyone has the ability to make a difference in the world of football and he does. He is involved and he shows it. I don’t know the Dembele from before November, I don’t know him. I am very happy with this one.”
